Link velocity describes the rate at which a website acquires new backlinks over time — measured as the number of new links or new referring domains gained per week or month. A site that suddenly gains thousands of backlinks in a short period after years of minimal link growth raises algorithmic red flags, even if the links themselves appear legitimate.
