Zero-Click Search

A zero-click search is a search query that is resolved entirely within the SERP without the user clicking through to any external website. This happens when Google's answer boxes, featured snippets, knowledge panels, calculators, weather widgets, or other SERP features provide a sufficient answer to the user's query directly on the results page.

Zero-click searches have grown substantially as Google has expanded its suite of instant-answer features. Studies suggest that a significant portion of all Google searches now end without a click, a trend that disproportionately affects informational and navigational queries while having less impact on transactional or commercial queries where users still need to visit a destination.

Why it matters for SEO

Zero-click search fundamentally changes how SEO value is measured. High impressions no longer reliably translate into traffic if queries are resolved in the SERP. This reality pushes brands to pursue branded queries, transactional keywords, and content strategies that give users a reason to click through even when partial information is available on the results page.
