Experience (E-E-A-T)
Experience, added to Google's E-A-T framework in December 2022, refers to the firsthand, lived experience a content creator brings to their subject. It distinguishes between an author who has personally done something — traveled to a destination, tested a product, managed a disease — versus one who has only researched and written about it secondhand.
Content that demonstrates direct personal experience is valued particularly for review, product comparison, and how-to content, where authenticity is difficult to fake and genuinely useful to readers. Signals of experience include specific personal anecdotes, original photos, tested recommendations, and transparent disclosure of how the author encountered the topic.
Why it matters for SEO
Google added the Experience dimension specifically to address the flood of AI-generated and secondhand content that is technically accurate but lacks authentic firsthand perspective. Content demonstrating real experience is harder for AI to replicate and more useful to users, giving it a durable quality advantage in Google's evaluations.
